Continuing Support for AUBG Students: Mihail and Kostadin
January 11th, 2025
The Aleksander Foundation is delighted to continue the support for Mihail Manev and Kostadin Dimitrov, two exceptional students at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG). As recipients of our prestigious stipend program, established in collaboration with the Trust for Social Achievement, Mihail and Kostadin exemplify the potential of young Roma scholars. Our ongoing commitment to these students underscores our mission to empower talented individuals facing adversity and foster their academic and personal growth.
Mihail Manev
Mihail is an activist in the Roma community and coordinator of a volunteer group at the Arete Youth Foundation. With the support of the Aleksander Foundation, he is continuing to pursue his higher education at AUBG, where he is majoring in Business Administration and European Studies. Mihail sees his education at AUBG as a step towards becoming a leader with responsibility towards society.
Kostadin Dimitrov
Transitioning from a public high school serving primarily Roma students to a more competitive high school environment, Kostadin excelled and challenged stereotypes. He is passionate about giving back and has been involved in the Summer Start Academy, where he has both participated and taught, aiming to improve educational outcomes for Roma children. At AUBG, Kostadin is majoring in European Studies, with the goal of contributing to positive change both within his community and beyond.
A quote from our founder
We are incredibly excited to witness Mihail and Kostadin's growth and achievements in the years to come. This joint initiative aims to support not only academic success, but also societal change.
"When I was a student - right around the hyperinflation in 1996, I was looking for all kinds of ways to access good education. Scholarships from various foundations and institutions, as well as accurate advice from a few good mentors, helped me to graduate in Bulgaria, study for a master's degree at the Central European University and then a PhD in Vienna. Now I am in a position to help and have the opportunity to do so. Congratulations for the successful admission and for the exciting academic journey at AUBG!" - Aleksandar Petrov
